Who is the Most Accomplished Nollywood Director of the Decade?


Who among the most accomplished directors of the best Nollywood movies since 2007 to date can we call the "Nollywood Director of the Decade"?

1. Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen


Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, is one of the most accomplished filmmakers in the Nigerian film industry who is one of the pioneers of Nollywood even before the New York Times coined the name in 2002.
In 2008 a Canadian documentary Nollywood Babylon co-directed by Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal, and produced by AM Pictures and the National Film Board of Canada in association with the Documentary Channel, followed Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen while he was shooting his 157th film "Bent Arrows". The documentary played in the Official Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. "Bent Arrows" was released into the Nigerian home market in 2010. He has directed more than 100 movies and the most popular include “A Private Storm” with Ikechukwu Onyeka, starring famous Nollywood leading man, Ramsey Nouah and leading lady, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Ghanaian actor John Dumelo; “Games Men Play” starring Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Chioma Chukwuka, Monalisa Chindu, Ini Edo, Mike Ezuruonye, Kate Henshaw, Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Uche Jombo;“Bent Arrows” starring Desmond Elliot, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva and Omoni Oboli with soundtracks album of music from Nikki Laoye, Stella Damasus, Styl Plus and production by Cobhams Asuquo; "Home in Exile" starring Chiwetalu Agu, Francis Duru, Desmond Elliot. Justus Esiri, Uche Jombo and Beverly Naya; “Invasion 1897”, the epic historical film based on the invasion of the great Benin Kingdom by the British in 1897 with the dethronement of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi, starring Mike Omoregbe, Segun Arinze, the late Justus Esiri, Rudolph Walker, Charles Inojie and Paul Obazele and “Victims”, starring Olu Jacobs, Juliet Ibrahim, Fathia Balogun, Seun Akindele and Saidi Balogun.




2. Izu Ojukwu


Izu Ojukwu is a Nigerian film director. In 2007 he won Best Director for Sitanda at the 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards, which received nine nominations and won five awards at the event, including Best Picture and Best Nigerian Film. His most anticipated new film is the epic "Amina" based on the legendary Queen Amina of Zaria. His other critically acclaimed movies include the multiple awards winning historical film "'76" (2016), "White Waters" (2008), "Cindy's Note" (2008), "Laviva" (2007), "Sitanda" (2006), "GL 1 & 2" (2005), "Across the Niger" (2003), "Moving Train" (2003) and "Battle of Love" (2003).


3. Teco Benson




Teco Benson is a Nigerian film director and producer. He was nominated for Best Director at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2006 and 2008, and won Director of the Year at the 2011 Best of Nollywood Awards. In 2012 he was decorated by President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.[1][2][3] He started his career as an actor in 1994 before switching producing and directing. In 2003 he made the first Sierra Leone-made film titled "Blood Diamonds".
