Skyfall has made over $1,023,204,366 so far since the 23rd James Bond film premiered on October 23, 2012 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, released in the UK on October 26, 2012 and in the U.S.A. on November 9, 2012. Skyfall is the first Bond film to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide and the 13th highest grossing film of all time and has become the highest-grossing film in the UK, the highest-grossing film in the Bond series, the highest-grossing film worldwide for Sony Pictures and the third highest-grossing film of 2012.
Skyfall with Daniel Craig in his third performance as James Bond was directed by Sam Mendes and written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. The film cost about $150−200 million.
It was the first James Bond film to be screened in IMAX venues, but was not filmed with IMAX cameras.
The film's release coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Bond series, which began with Dr. No in 1962.
Craig's Bond contract, which he signed in 2005, is for 3 Bond films over 6 years, or 4 Bond films over 10 years at the discretion of Sony and Eon. Craig is being paid USD $12,000,000 for his first 3 Bond films, with an option to earn an additional USD $10,000,000 should Sony and Eon want him to make a 4th Bond film. For his first 3 007 films Craig will be paid less than half what Pierce Brosnan was paid for his first 3 Bond movies.
