Nollywood is Not Cinema; It is TV

“I watch Tunde Kelani’s films and I see a lot about culture; you see someone doing something consciously. Maybe Nollywood is not cinema, I must tell you that; not the cinema that I learned. I think Nollywood, by virtue of where it comes from, is TV; like soap opera, comedy, series that has been cut into drama… but its TV, it’s not cinema. I know some people will attack me for saying this, but there’s no point. We can be honest to ourselves among filmmakers; it’s not cinema,”

Newton Aduaka the famous Nigerian born filmmaker is the only Nigerian filmmaker so far to win the highly coveted Golden Yennenga Stallion (Grand Prize) Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO).
Aduaka is famous for his multiple awards winning films including "On the Edge", the best short film at the 8th African Film Festival of Milan in 1998 and at FESPACO 1999. His first feature film, "Rage" became the first wholly independently financed film by a black filmmaker in the history of British cinema to be released at theaters in the UK and it won several awards at film festivals. His next major success was Ezra, which the California Newsreel described as the first film to give an African perspective on the disturbing phenomenon of abducting child soldiers into the continent's recent civil wars.
"Ezra" premiered in the World cinema competition at the Sundance film festival, was nominated for the Humanitas Prize and screened in a special section of the Critics’ Week in Cannes. "Ezra" has appeared in numerous film festivals and events across the world and has been awarded 28 times including 6 Grand Jury prizes and a Federation of International Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award. Ezra has been named as one of the most important anti-war films ever made. It was awarded the United Nation’s prize for Peace and Tolerance. And won the biggest prize, the Golden Yennenga Stallion (Grand Prize) at the 2007 FESPACO.

Momensity10 Introduces the Selfie-Concert as the Next Media Format

WASHINGTON, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Entertainers for years have used Social media platforms to aggregate their local and international fan bases in one convenient location but there was no direct way to monetize the fans other than telling the locals where the next event will be, forget about the international fans. However, a startup called Momensity10 believes that there's a better way for comedians, bands, DJs, Indie Film makers and others to generate value beyond a 'like' from their individual fans – by scheduling LIVE streaming pay-per-view selfies.

AFRIMA Receives 4,816 Entries for 2017 Awards

AFRIMA Receives 4,816 Entries for 2017 Submission...Eastern Africa with the Highest Entries screening and adjudication processes follow

The 2017 edition of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, is already in the works to becoming an epoch-making awards event after receiving nearly 5,000 entries from African music artistes and music professionals at the close of the two-month entry submission process on Monday, July 17.

The African Union and the International Committee of AFRIMA had opened the
2017 AFRIMA Call for Entries on May 8 giving opportunity to African music artistes, record producers, songwriters, video directors and music journalists to enter their qualified works on the AFRIMA website and the awards social media platforms.

AFRIMA International Advisor and member of the International Committee, Mr. Rikki Stein.

The overwhelming response to this call putting the total number of entries received for 2017 at 4,816 is an astronomical increase from the 2,714 number of entries received in 2016 which amounts to a whooping 77.25% increase compared to last year. Analysis reveals the regions with the highest entries as Eastern Africa, with 47% of the total entries and Western Africa, with 30%. This immense progress is a positive marker and has elicited satisfaction from the African Union, the International Committee of AFRIMA, the Regional and Country Directors of AFRIMA.

Mike Dada, President/Executive Producer AFRIMA

Expressing his excitement at the high number of entries in 2017, the AFRIMA International Advisor and member of the International Committee, Mr. Rikki Stein stated: "This is tremendous news, indicative of an increasingly healthy music industry across Africa, particularly from a creative perspective. AFRIMA is plugged in to the aspirations of the African continent, providing a platform for excellence in the field of music and a source of inspiration and encouragement for its associated
fields of endeavour; songwriters, producers, sound engineers, distributors, publicists, marketers, photographers, videographers, stylists, journalists, bloggers, DJs and on and on".

The former friend and Manager to African music legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti
also added that, "As one by one, African artists are making their mark in the wider world, acting as ambassadors of their countries and their culture, the eyes and ears of that wider world are opening and turning towards Africa as the source of much more than entertainment. In its finest form, as will be evident amongst AFRIMA nominees and eventual winners, they provide an antidote to negativity and cynicism, offering a healing form for ailments of heart and spirit; what Fela used to call "The Underground Spiritual Game”.

How To Stop the Piracy of Nollywood and Kannywood Movies

I know whenever any particular movie is pirated.
I knew when the highest grossing Nigerian movie was pirated online the same month of the theatrical release. But the producers, distributors and exhibitors preferred to be ignorant and fixated on the bragging rights instead of stopping the #piracy of their movie on the internet and from the internet to the street.

The fact is; they don't have the expertise, but they pretend they do to the public and recently posturing to the The National Film Video Censors Board (NFVCB) that lacks the competence, experience and expertise in the control and prevention of movie piracy.
The technology of movie piracy is beyond Alaba International Market and hawkers of pirated movies on the streets of Lagos and other cities in Nigeria and the neighbouring countries. It is high tech and only experts in cyber security can tackle it successfully.

According to the reports from MUSO with the data of visits to 14,000 of the largest global piracy websites from 226 countries. In total, the company recorded 141 billion visits to pirate sites last year.

MUSO is the number one company that has the latest technology for the control and prevention of IP piracy in whatever media applicable.

The following information from MUSO and the four steps to stop the piracy of any movie from VdoCipher will be enough for the protection of Nigerian movies  from the most elusive pirates worldwide.

Nollywood and Kannywood Movies Promoting Eco - Tourism

Nollywood and Kannywood Movies Promoting Eco - Tourism

When I wrote a feature on how the Nigerian film industry is a gold mine of a billion dollar tourism industry, many people in Nollywood did not see the Big Picture of the awesome cinematography of filmmakers who have captured the wonders of nature in motion picture.

Nollywood and Kannywood movies have been promoting Ecotourism- tourism directed towards exotic natural environments, intended to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife.

The Nigerian government is just paying lip service to the promotion of tourism. The government does not not even a functional website for tourism!
What are the Honourable Ministers, Director - General and state commissioners doing?
We are losing millions of dollars before our very eyes!
Nigeria is so blessed with awesome fauna and flora that we have left to waste when other countries are making so much money from ecotourism 24/7.

Ecotourism is a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial mass tourism. It means responsible travel to natural areas conserving the environment and improving the well-being of the local people.

The Nollywood and Kannywood movies promoting ecotourism include "Igodo", 1999 directed by Andy Amenechi and Don Pedro Obaseki; Izu Ojukwu's "Sitanda", 2006 and " White Waters", 2008; Ini Edo's "I'll Take My Chances", 2012"; Tunde Kelani's "Arugba", 2008; Kunle Afolayan's "The Figurine: Araromire", 2009; Ifeanyi Onyeabor's "Fulani", 2015; Tony Abulu's "Doctor Bello", 2013; Ibinabo Fiberesima's "Gifted", 2017 and still counting.

I would have loved if the filmmakers used the special effects of Virtual Reality in the movies.

Reading this Book Cures Depression

What Is Depression?

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.

One of the simplest cure for depression is reading inspirational books and especially books on those who have been through temptations and trials of the challenges of existential realities of life on earth and became triumphant overcomers. One of them is Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the popular Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the largest Pentecostal Church in the world with over 35, 000 parishes. His amazing testimonies have been inspirational to hundreds of thousands of members of the RCCG and others who fellowship with him to worship Almighty God whenever he is ministering at different locations in parishes of the RCCG and at the Redemption Camp in Ogun state of southwestern Nigeria. Thousands of congregants suffering from depression have been healed. Now these proven testimonies are in the new book Stories of Pastor E. A. Adeboye: The Power of Testimony written by Bisi Daniels, the prolific Nigerian author who has been cured of depression by the testimonies of this famous Pentecostal evangelist.
I have also experienced the revival of my spirit by reading this awesome book and I am recommending it to everyone who needs a permanent cure for depression.

The book is available at the Glendora Bookshops in Lagos, CSS Bookshops on Lagos Island, Laterna Bookshops on Victoria Island, and Bookseller along Olumo Road near the Mountain of Fire and  Miracles Ministries (MFM) Church in Onike, Yaba. It is also sold by CRM at the Redemption Camp in Ogun state.

The book is distributed worldwide by Amazon on Amazon Kindle and paperback version with free shipping.
