See the Big Picture of the Future!
My greatest challenge with working with fellow Nigerians is that majority of them from the street to the internet and movie set are intellectually shortsighted.
You have a cast that is clueless about the raison d'etre of your film production. They are only there to be seen on the screen and collect the money.
They don't know and so cannot see the Big Picture. So, they see only the small picture and that is what they have.
From Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde to Linda Ikeji, they saw the Big Picture and that is what they have.
Linda in particular was only 17 when she came to see me in my office in 1997, 20 years ago, when I was the Editor of the rested Affections magazine on Shiro Street in Fadeyi, Lagos.
She said she wanted to be a fashion model and she did, because of her loyalty and tenacity.
She was loyal and obedient.
Sometimes, we walked from Mushin to Surulere and once she had to sit on my legs on a "Danfo" minibus when there was only one available seat.
I took her to her first time to eat at a fast food restaurant, the Mr. BIGGS on Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, near the Surulere Mall in Lagos. Then she had her first buffet as my companion to a conference hosted by Chevron Nigeria where the American MD gave her his card to contact him later. But she never did. She focused on our goals and in 1998 was catwalking on the runway of a big fashion show by the Silverbird Group.
She soon became the highest paid Nigerian model in Nigeria and graduated from the University of Lagos.
She launched her own Fashion, Modeling and Beauty (FM&B) magazine and I was the Managing Editor.
From modeling to publishing and to blogging. Then she said, "Let us have a media empire!"and "I want to be more popular than Bella Naija ." And I said she would be. And her vision of the Big Picture of herself is what the rest of the world is seeing now!
She has Linda Ikeji Blog; Linda Ikeji Social; Linda Ikeji Music and Linda Ikeji TV. And from the misery of poverty in the ghetto of Mushin, Almighty God JEHOVAH has lifted her and taken her to the luxury of prosperity; living in her own palatial mansion on the exclusive Banana Island in Ikoyi and with her office in the upscale business district of Lekki. A true life grass to grace story and the rest is history.
