Ajak Deng: From Refugee Camp To Supermodel Runway

I prefer to call Ajak Deng the new Alek Wek, because the younger Sudanese super model is following the trail blazed by Alek Wek. Ajak has been phenomenal on the runway in Paris and other fashion capitals modeling for Jean Paul Gaultier, Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela, and Givenchy and shining on the covers of VOGUE and other top fashion magazines.

Alek Wek has proven to me that just because I am a girl doesn't mean I can't do whatever I want.

Lachlan Bailey shot Ajak Deng for the October issue of Vogue US, with makeup by Romy Soleimani.

Melbourne-based model Ajak Deng was born in Sudan and has become a fashion favourite on the runway for Lanvin and Louis Vuitton.

Deng fled Sudan when she was 12. Her mother died of malaria in a refugee camp in Kenya.
