Suicide Squad Explodes Into IMAX® 3D Theatres With Record $18.2 Million Global Opening
Film Scores Best-Ever IMAX August Box Office Opening
Domestically, Suicide Squad kicked off the weekend with $2.4 million from IMAX pre-shows on Thursday, setting a new record for August and surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy as the previous record holder (with $1.9 million). Overall, IMAX accounted for 15 of Suicide Squad's top 20 opening theatres.
International IMAX weekend results for Suicide Squad were led by such notable markets as Sweden (with $96,000 per screen), Puerto Rico ($67,000 per screen), South Korea ($59,000 per screen), Dubai ($57,000), the Netherlands ($56,000 per screen) and Australia ($53,000 per screen). Major overseas markets yet to open include Denmark, Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, Germany, Austria, Italy, and in early September, Japan.
