The Famous Wine Merchant Who Remembered To Take His Wine With Him, But Forgot His Wife

On April 23, 1989, at a black-tie Bordeaux dinner held in the Four Seasons restaurant in Manhattan, New York, the famous Manhattan wine merchant, William Sokolin broke the highly priced bottle of 1787 Chateau Margaux, one of most expensive wines in the world that he said was worth US$500,000.

The bottle was reputed to be from Thomas Jefferson's collection. Insurers paid out US$225,000.
