KENNY ROGERS PRESENTED WITH THE WILLIE NELSON LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

NASHVILLE – Country Music Hall of Fame member and musical icon Kenny Rogers was honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented Wednesday during “The 47th Annual CMA Awards.”

“Kenny is a legend and a musical innovator who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of Country Music around the world,” said Ed Hardy, President of the CMA Board of Directors. “He is extremely deserving of this tribute.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award was first awarded to Willie Nelson on the 2012 CMA Awards and renamed in his honor. Each presentation of the Award will honor an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in Country Music. These luminaries must have achieved both national and international prominence and stature through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, record sales, and public representation at the highest level.

In creating the award, the CMA Board of Directors recognized legacy in the form of impact and relevance spanning generations. The Board felt that recipients of this honor must have positively impacted and contributed to the growth of the genre over time and that future honorees would have proven historical impact on fans and industry alike.

Rogers is a five-time CMA Awards winner with 23 career nominations. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in a Medallion Ceremony in October, celebrating a five decade-long career. Rogers has sold more than 120 million records worldwide, recorded 24 No. 1 songs and 12 No. 1 albums, is a New York Times Bestselling author, and recently released his 35th studio album – the critically acclaimed You Can’t Make Old Friends, which became his 22nd Top 10 Country album.
