"Moonlight" Upsets "La La Land" To Win Best Picture Oscar

I predicted that the winner of the Best Director Oscar will not be the winner of the Best Picture Oscar and that is exactly what happened Sunday night at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on February 26, 2017.
Barry Jenkins' low budget drama Moonlight beat the highly favoured La La Land of Damien Chazelle to win the most coveted Oscar for Best Picture and Chazelle won the Oscar for Best Director.

"Moonlight" also won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Mahershala Ali and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.

Viola Davis won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her outstanding portrayal of "Rose Lee Maxson" in Denzel Washington's Fences.
Davis already won the Golden Globe, SAG Award, BAFTA, and Critics Choice Award, making her the first African-American actress and the first woman of color to win five SAG Awards and the first black woman in history to be nominated for three Academy Awards.

The 89th Academy Awards ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the first time.
