The Vienna designer label is upcycling capsules from airline life jackets into striking necklaces. Following on from its bags and accessories made from aviation materials, this is the first time Flug zeug has introduced jewellery products into its range.

Made from capsules for airline life jackets, the Austrian fashion label Flug zeug is now creating sensational necklaces that are completely in line with the trend for large, confident statement pieces. The capsules were once used on board aircraft to inflate life jackets quickly in an emergency.

Flug zeug has established itself over the past three years as a creative brand that processes airline materials into stand-out accessories. For example, the company makes bags, backpacks and tablet/smartphone cases from life jackets taken out of service by airlines. During this process, the capsules removed from the life jackets are collected. "The interesting shape and colour combinations of the cartridge capsules inspired me to develop a new accessory," says Flug zeug founder Andreas Roesler-Schmidt. The shape is perfect for making eye-catching necklaces. "As well as the design of the necklaces, I think their origin is also appealing: we are doing a kind of double upcycling."

As is often the case with Flug zeug, each necklace is a unique piece as each capsule shines with a different combination of colours - from silvery green to reddish gold. Different original lettering from the aviation industry adds to the individuality of these self-assured statement pieces. The Flug zeug NECKLACE is initially available in two versions: with a black leather cord or a silver-coloured bead chain.

"The necklace is unisex - it is for anyone who likes to wear striking accessories and has a soft spot for more distinctive jewellery pieces," adds Roesler-Schmidt. "The NECKLACE goes perfectly with confident, urban outfits." At 8 cm long, wearers also make a clear fashion statement. Weighing just 40 grams, it is nevertheless pleasantly light to wear.

The necklaces are made entirely in Vienna. Available from the web shop at http://www.flug-zeug.at.
