following an advance screening of the Paramount Pictures film "Men, Women & Children," Robert Weiss will lead a discussion on the myriad challenges parents and teens face as they confront the rapidly shifting terrain of love and relationships in the digital age.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, an international authority on technology and relationships and senior vice president of clinical development for Elements Behavioral Health, will lead a discussion on parenting in the digital age following an advance screening of the film "Men, Women & Children," in select theaters October 1 from Paramount Pictures. The event will be held at the ArcLight Hollywood on September 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kaitlyn Dever, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ansel Elgort, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Dean Norris and Adam Sandler, "MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN" follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose - some tragic, some hopeful - as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers. The film is based on the novel by Chad Kultgen with a screenplay by Jason Reitman & Erin Cressida Wilson. Produced by Jason Reitman and Helen Estabrook.
The discussion will explore such topics as online dating and the teen hookup culture, generational differences in how teens and parents use technology, and the social pressure that today's technology places on teens and their families.
"The Internet and ancillary devices have fundamentally transformed how we relate to each other, creating a world of easy online communication and encounters, with no rules of engagement," says Weiss. As one of the nation's leading experts in the field, Weiss has helped individuals, couples and families manage the complexities of Internet dating, relationships and sexuality for more than three decades. "These are among the foremost issues of the day for parents and teens. I see these themes every day, and I have practical advice for navigating this constantly shifting terrain."
Complimentary copies of Weiss' book "Closer Together, Further Apart: The Effect of Technology and the Internet on Parenting, Work, and Relationships" will be available at the event.
