Shola Balogun, Nigeria's Most Popular Photographer of Stars

Shola Balogun is a household name among celebrities in Nigeria, because almost every Nigerian celebrity has posed for him in his popular Shola Creative Photo Studio or at an event. He is the most sought after celebrity photographer and also for those who are not celebrities as well. Models, actors, actresses, musicians, comedians and their agencies patronize him 24/7 and his exceptional photographs have won him several awards and taken him places all over Nigeria and other countries, including South Africa, the UK and Germany.

From Desmond Elliot to Monalisa Chinda, Shola has photographed more Nollywood stars than any other photographer since the 1990s to date and from a dingy single room makeshift space as his first studio on Suenu Street in Surulere on the mainland of Lagos city where we had our first meeting almost two decades ago, Shola moved to a three bedroom flat on Adeyemi Street on another street and now he has moved higher to an impressive three-storey duplex building with four rooms, five toilets, boy’s quarter and a penthouse in the middle class area of Surulere. Wow! And it all started with a small Canon camera in 1997.

Shola said he cannot forget how Sir Tony Ezenna, Chairman of Orange Drugs Ltd took his career to another level and made him a happier photographer. He is the official photographer of the famous Delta Soap beauty queens of Orange Drugs and the captivating faces of Lillian Bach, Sandra Okagbue, Angela Okorie, Rita Amaka Echendu, Shirley Igwe and others adorn the walls of his studio.
