Nollywood: Between Quantity and Quality

Nollywood: Between Quantity and Quality

In filmmaking, you cannot compromise on the quality of the art and craft regardless of the format of the media.
~ EKENYERENGOZI Michael Chima,
Publisher/Editor, NOLLYWOOD MIRROR®Series on the large quantity of Nollywood movies produced without much regard for the quality of the content.

What is the benefit of bragging that Nigeria is the second largest producer of movies in the world after India, but these movies have failed to qualify for the Official Selections of @festivaldecannes and nominations for @theacademy awards?

Every year, we can only count the well produced Nigerian movies on our fingertips. May be only ten #Nollywood movies and two #Kannywood movies.
The movies in the indigenous languages have better stories than the English language movies, but with poor directing and bad cinematography.
Majority of the actors and actresses in Nollywood and Kannywood are irritatingly amateurish. And there is scarcity of good professional editors and sound engineers in the entire Nigerian film industry. We cannot even find up to five competent documentary editors in Nigeria. Many of them don't know that there is a big difference in editing home videos and editing documentary films.
Do the film schools in Nigeria have qualified professionals to teach sound editing?
What of film music?
Which of the film schools teaches film music on the following?
1. Commenting
2. Illustrating Movement
3. Creating Plot Relationships
4. Create Atmosphere
5. Portray Emotions
6. Social/Cultural/Geographic References
7. Time/Period References
8. Connect Scenes/Montages
9. Manipulate
10. Alternate the Perception of Time
11. Imply a Sense of Space
12. Create Unreal Situations
13. Create Contradictions
14. Parody
15. Physiological Conditioning
16. Implying Size Relations
17. Psychologically Uniting the Audience.

Let's celebrate when Nigerian movies compete with the best movies in the world and stop making noise about the large quantities of Nollywood movies.
