One of the most popular beauty queens at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), 200 level English student Franca Qween Aide is going to launch her Girls United Together for Success (GUTS) movement to campaign for the education of all the millions of girls out of school in Nigeria, inspired by the phenomenal Girl Rising film campaign for the education of all underprivileged girls in the world.
"I was one of the coordinators of the successful Nigerian premiere of the international film "Girl Rising" to celebrate the United Nations' International Day of the Girl Child on Friday October 11, 2013, at the Silverbird Cinemas, Silverbird Galleria on Victoria Island., Lagos. And I have been inspired to start Girls United Together for Success (GUTS) to be launched before the end of 2014 to begin our nationwide initiative for all Nigerians to join the call to action for the education of more than 6 million girls out of school in Nigeria; following the global mission of "Girl Rising" that Educating girls in the developing world can transform families, communities, and entire countries - and break the cycle of poverty in just one generation," said Miss Aide in her first press release on GUTS.
For GUTS, every girl in Nigeria must go to school and have a good education from primary school to the university.
GUTS will campaign against every form of child labor in Nigeria and stop poor girls being used as hawkers and housemaids in every community in Nigeria.
GUTS is not an NGO and will not be an NGO. It is going to use mass communication for mass literacy campaign for the education of all girls everywhere they are in Nigeria. The GUTSY messages will be spread by word of mouth, online and offline, on social network sites, publications in print media, radio, TV, T-Shirts, Face-caps, scarves, bandannas, mugs, etc for the public enlightenment to support GUTS 24/7!
