No Box Office Hit in #Nollywood in 2018?

No Box Office Hit in #Nollywood in 2018?

PS: Any movie grossing less than the production and marketing budget in Nigerian cinemas is a flop.

Many Nigerian movies that were called called box office hits in Nigeria actually bombed ( flopped). I will not list them, because the filmmakers and film distributors don't like making the facts public.

Some of them have not recovered from their devastating losses. Two of them have not been able to make another feature film since their first features in 2010 and 2012. In fact, one of them is now a trader.

More than 90% of Nigerian movies in Nollywood and Kannywood cannot get major acquisitions for theatrical release even in South Africa and end up acquired for cable TV and VOD such as @netflixmena and similar platforms.
Nollywood is largely classified as TV and home videos industry in international markets.

The standard template for the theatrical productions is not a secret. But majority of Nigerian filmmakers prefer to make home videos for cable TV and VOD platforms. It is cheaper and easier for them.
