The historical fiction drama film directed by Biyi Bandele was an adaptation of the bestselling historical fiction, Half of a Yellow Sun on the Biafran war by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It featured popular international actors, including Nigerian born Hollywood stars, Chiwetel Ejiofor and John Boyega, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose and top Nollywood stars, Genevieve Nnaji, OC Ukeje and Onyeka Onwenu. The film premiered in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
