Happy Birthday to the King of Nollywood, Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, who is celebrating his 57th birthday today!


RMD, the "Dike Oha na Nollywood”, an Igbo title given to him which means hero of all in Nollywood is the epitome of the quintessential Nigerian Alpha Man on and off the silver screen since he became a TV star in the popular TV series Checkmate of the early 1990s and then became the most sought after leading man in Nollywood.
He has played leading and supporting roles in more than 47 highly rated movies and won several awards. He is the role model of the upcoming male actors who look up to him for inspiration and leadership among the millions of Nigerian youths.

RMD is from the famous oil city of Warri in Delta State of the south-south region of Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Benin where he got a degree in Theatre Arts and came to Lagos to work as a journalist for Concord Newspapers and Metro Magazine and as an actor on stage and TV in the 1980s. He is also a good poet and prose writer.
He later studied Law at the University of Lagos and successfully graduated in 2004.
He joined the sustainable development of democracy and governance in Delta State as the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and later returned fully to Nollywood.


He has played leading roles with the most celebrated A-List actresses in Nollywood, such as Ego Boyo, Liz Benson, Regina Askia-Williams, Bimbo Akintola, Racheal Oniga, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Stella Damasus, Ini Edo, Rita Dominic, Genevieve Nnaji, Stephanie Linus. Chioma Chukwuka, Patience Ozokwor, Sola Sobowale, Ireti Doyle and Adesua Etomi.
In 2005, he won the inaugural Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for the Best Actor in a Leading Role.
